Description
Tips for Tropical Biologists was written for those interested in carrying out research in the Neotropics and is a reference to read before going into the field, or during an expedition, in case problems are encountered. Although the author is a botanist, the information provided is applicable to all biologists involved in the exploration of plant, animal, and fungal diversity of neotropical habitats as well as anyone that is working or visiting (for example, on an ecotour) remote areas of this region. Much of the discussion in the book is based on the author's 40 years of tropical plant exploration and, thus, includes most of the problems one encounters while exploring the Neotropics. The reader will learn about a wide range of topics, including the parasites (such as leishmaniasis) and pests they might encounter (such as botflies), how to sleep comfortably in a hammock, and recommendations of what to do when bitten by a snake or encountering a band of white lip peccaries.
